During his meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Bezhshkian stated: “If the UN sanctions mechanism is activated, dialogue becomes meaningless. Western countries must show commitment to their nuclear file obligations for understanding to have significance.”
Earlier, on Monday, the Iranian presidency confirmed Iran’s complete readiness to confront the European trio’s move to re-impose international sanctions. Iranian Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said, “Iran is not an advocate of war, but it will respond forcefully to any enemy move,” emphasizing that “the unilateral American sanctions are the worst imposed on us, and we will continue our path with strength and determination.”
On August 28, Britain, France, and Germany (the three EU member states) informed the UN Security Council of the launch of the re-imposition mechanism that was lifted under the 2015 nuclear agreement.
