Iraq to Resume Oil Exports After Kurdistan Agreement

Abdul Ghani stated in a press conference during his visit to Kirkuk Governorate in the north of the country: “Oil export will begin,” and added, “After reaching an agreement with the Kurdistan Regional Government, we will initially export 80,000 barrels of oil per day,” according to the Iraqi News Agency “INA”. Iraqi Oil Minister Hayan Abdul Ghani mentioned the “inauguration of several development projects.” On March 25, 2023, the flow of oil from Iraq to the port of Ceyhan stopped following the decision of the International Court of Arbitration in Paris concerning oil exports between Turkey and Iraq. This pipeline has become a symbol of the energy ties between the two countries, but the growing expectations of both countries have limited the agreement’s ability to meet current needs, necessitating new commercial, legal, and structural arrangements.
