US Plans Visa Restrictions for UN Assembly

Mousavi’s statements came in response to what US media published earlier regarding the US State Department’s plans to impose visa restrictions and travel bans on delegations from several countries, including Iran, Sudan, Zimbabwe, and Brazil, coinciding with the United Nations General Assembly, as reported by Iran’s Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

Mousavi said that what has been revealed is part of a repetitive restrictive policy that Washington also applied to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas Abu Mazen and his diplomatic delegation. The Iranian President’s aide pointed out that the United Nations headquarters in New York imposes a legal obligation on Washington to provide the necessary facilities for the participation of member states’ delegations, emphasizing that “Americans do not have the right to decide who attends the meetings.”

He added that Iran hopes its delegation will be able to travel and deliver its speeches according to the planned schedule, noting that the delegation “will adhere to its duties and its program will not be fundamentally affected despite these restrictions.”

It is worth mentioning that last June, 12 countries were included in an executive order issued by US President Donald Trump to prohibit the entry of citizens from several countries into the United States for reasons related to national security.
