The legal officer and head of the Committee for Weapon Control by the State, Major General Mansour Ali Sultan, stated that the Permanent National Committee for Arms Regulation has begun the initial stages of its government program. This includes organizing a comprehensive database that periodically includes government and confiscated weapons, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

Sultan explained that civilian ministries had the authority to purchase weapons since 2006. He pointed out that the committee succeeded in the current year, 2025, in withdrawing 42,237 medium and light weapons from all ministries in Baghdad and the provinces, in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers.
