The Hebrew newspaper ‘Israel Hayom’ reported on Sunday evening that Netanyahu, at the start of the cabinet meeting on political and security affairs, said ‘Israel is waiting for the results.’ Netanyahu briefly stated to the newspaper, ‘The Israeli army attacked Abu Ubaida, and we are waiting for the results,’ noting that there is a delay in the announcement of his death by the movement.
The Israeli newspaper mentioned that Netanyahu clarified at the start of the government meeting, ‘We are waiting for the results. I noticed that Hamas’s announcement is slightly delayed. It seems there is no one to inform us about this matter, perhaps there is currently no one in Hamas to announce the death of Abu Ubaida.’
On Saturday, the Israeli army confirmed its targeting of the military spokesman for the ‘Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades’, the military wing of the Palestinian ‘Hamas’ movement, Abu Ubaida, with an airstrike in Gaza City. The Israeli army spokesman, Avichay Adraee, announced that ‘The army forces attacked, under the guidance of the military intelligence, through an air force plane, a central terrorist in the region of Gaza City in the northern sector.’
Additionally, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation reported that the Israeli army carried out an airstrike on a location in the northern Gaza Strip, with the aim of attempting to kill Abu Ubaida, but his death has not been confirmed yet. The corporation clarified on its website that the Israeli attack was carried out by a drone on Abu Ubaida’s headquarters in northern Gaza.
The Israeli army had called last Wednesday for the ‘residents of Gaza City and the northern sector to move south’, stating in an important announcement that ‘Evacuating Gaza City is inevitable’, adding that ‘Prior to the transition, there are vast empty areas in the southern sector, as is the case in the central camps and Mawasi.’
It continued, ‘Evacuating Gaza City is inevitable, and therefore every family moving south will receive the most humanitarian aid being worked on these days, as the army has begun working on bringing in tents and preparing areas to establish humanitarian aid distribution complexes and extending water lines, among other things.’
Residents of the sector suffer from unprecedented levels of hunger, with UN organizations warning of widespread famine and increasing deaths due to malnutrition, especially among children, the sick, and those with disabilities. From October 7, 2023, to August 21, 2025, the war on Gaza has caused the death of about 62,000 Palestinians, in addition to about 157,000 injured, according to Palestinian Health Ministry data in Gaza.
