The Israeli Broadcasting Authority reported today, Thursday, that Netanyahu’s office announced the body returned to Israel yesterday belonged to “Suthisak Renthalak,” a hostage from Thailand, one of the last two hostages in the Gaza Strip. The office confirmed that “there is still one hostage whose body is held in Gaza, Sergeant First Class Ran Guily.” The Israeli army announced last Tuesday that it received “remains samples” from Palestinian militants in Gaza through the Red Cross. Netanyahu’s office stated that the country received from the Red Cross “remains samples” believed to be those of one of the two remaining hostages. The Israeli government mentioned that the samples would be sent for examination, while there are still remains of a Thai and an Israeli in Gaza, according to them. Last week, the “Al-Quds Brigades,” the military wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement, announced finding the remains of one of the three remaining Israeli detainees in the Gaza Strip. This development comes in the context of the exchange deal, which took place as part of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza, dated October 10 of last year, during which the Palestinian factions released 20 Israeli prisoners alive and the remains of 27 others out of 28, according to the factions’ announcement. The agreement came into effect on October 10, 2025, and on the 13th of the same month, U.S. President Donald Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan signed a declaration to establish the ceasefire in Gaza. Under the agreement, the movement released the 20 who remained alive since the events of October 7, 2023, in exchange for Israel releasing around 2000 Palestinian detainees from Gaza, including those serving long-term sentences.
