Israeli Accusations and Journalist Killings in Gaza

Regarding Israel’s accusation that Anas Al-Sharif was a member of the ‘Hamas’ movement, Atwan stated in an intervention via ‘Sputnik’ radio: ‘When they want to justify their crimes, they say this person is a member of the ‘Hamas’ movement,’ questioning, ‘Was Shireen Abu Akleh a general in the movement?’ He confirmed that ‘these are lies and the assassination of Anas Al-Sharif is because he was extraordinarily successful in his role as a journalist, and because Israel does not want this voice to reach the Arab and global streets.’

Atwan added: ‘Netanyahu wants to cover up his defeats, he is a confused man and knows that in this era it is difficult to hide the facts,’ emphasizing that ‘condemnations are good but they do not change anything.’

Al Jazeera network from Qatar reported on the evening of last Sunday, the killing of its correspondents in the Gaza Strip, Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Quraik, in an Israeli bombing on the journalists’ tent in the sector. The network said: ‘The martyrdom of Al Jazeera correspondents Anas Al-Sharif and Mohammed Quraik.’

It added that the bombing resulted in the death of five people, among them ‘Al Jazeera correspondents and Mohammed Quraik, and photographers Ibrahim Zaher and Mohammed Noufal, in a bombing in Gaza.’

Simultaneously, Palestinian sources announced the killing of journalist Mohammed Al-Khaldi and photographer Moamen Aloua in the same Israeli bombing that targeted the Al Jazeera crew in the tent adjacent to Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza.

In a related context, the Israeli army announced on Sunday evening the targeting of Al Jazeera correspondent Anas Al-Sharif, accusing him of ‘leading a cell’ affiliated with the Palestinian Hamas movement.
