During a phone call, UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and French President Emmanuel Macron emphasized that Israel’s attack on Qatar threatens regional security and stability.

On Tuesday, Israel’s attempt to target Hamas political leaders in Qatar marked an escalation of its military operations in the Middle East. This strike received global condemnation as it risks further inflaming an already tense region.

The United Nations Security Council condemned the attack in Doha on Thursday, yet their statement, endorsed by all 15 members including the US, did not specifically mention Israel.

In their discussion, Sheikh Mohamed and Macron also denounced the attack as a breach of Qatar’s sovereignty.

They highlighted the necessity of international collaboration to progress towards establishing an independent Palestinian state under the two-state solution, the key to enduring peace in the Middle East.

Sheikh Mohamed and Macron rejected any Israeli plans to annex the West Bank or other occupied territories or displace Palestinians, warning that such moves could destabilize the region and jeopardize the two-state solution.

The UAE recently asserted that Israel’s annexation of Palestinian land would violate the spirit of the Abraham Accords.

Signed in September 2020 during US President Donald Trump’s tenure, the Abraham Accords led the UAE, Bahrain, and Morocco to normalize relations with Israel, facilitated by US mediation.

“For the UAE, this transcends politics. It is about principle and regional peace. It is a red line,” stated UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs Lana Nusseibeh.
