Meloni stated that “the Ministerial Court, a judicial body charged with ruling on cases related to government members, has absolved her of legal responsibility in this case.” Italian media reported that “Meloni is suspected along with the Ministers of Justice and Interior, and the Deputy Prime Minister, of facilitating the release and deportation of the Libyan official.” According to the Italian Prime Minister, the document sent to her by the court indicates that she “was not informed beforehand and, therefore, did not participate in the decision to release and deport the detained Libyan official.
The document addressed to Meloni by the court, according to the Prime Minister, indicates that she “was not informed” beforehand, and thus did not participate in the “decision made” to release Osama Al-Masri Najem, accused of committing crimes against humanity including murder, torture, rape, and sexual violence. However, two days after his arrest, he was released by order of the Court of Appeal in Rome due to a procedural flaw. Subsequently, he was deported to Tripoli.
