Karin Belbeisi, a remarkable teenager, has reached a pinnacle many athletes aspire to: Olympic qualification. Selected to compete in the 400m freestyle in Paris, Karin proudly represented Jordan on the global stage — a dream she’s held since childhood.

“My dream has come true,” she shared with Khaleej Times last year, recalling her first encounter with the Olympics at just five or six. “Whenever anyone asked what I wanted to be, I always said an Olympian. I wanted to go to the Olympics.”

Swimming has been integral to Karin’s journey from the beginning. “I started at four,” she said. “My mum got me into it, and I loved it. I refused other sports. It was my joy, so I kept training.” Her parents’ influence is profound — her father played basketball, and her mother swam while pregnant with Karin, introducing her early to the water.

Qualifying for Paris was emotionally overwhelming. “It was the biggest shock,” she said. “They contacted my mum about the Olympics. She ran to my room shouting and jumping. I was in shock, so happy, shaking. Both my parents had happy tears.”
