Lavrov pointed out that the American President, Donald Trump, does not equivocate, does not hide his thoughts, and focuses on results and “deals,” but the “deep state” hinders him.
Lavrov mentioned that Moscow considers it an important step that President Donald Trump, after meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, called not only for a ceasefire in Ukraine but also for a long-term and sustainable settlement.
He said: “Trump stopping, after Alaska, from issuing an ultimatum for an unconditional ceasefire and starting to call for a long-term and sustainable ceasefire is, of course, a very important step, and a very important decision from the White House. So far, I don’t think they will retract this.”
Lavrov explained that the Trump administration wants to remove the Ukrainian issue from the agenda to clear the obstacles to normal economic relations with Russia.
Lavrov expressed his hope that Russia and the United States will conduct additional communications regarding Ukraine.
