Lavrov said during a press conference following his speech at the high-level week of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly: “We appreciate that the (US President Donald) Trump administration proposed to resume dialogue with us from the beginning, and we resumed it. We proved this immediately in February during a meeting with (US Secretary of State) Marco Rubio, and later in a phone call between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Trump, that we recognize the existence of national interests for Russia, the United States, and other countries.
Lavrov also emphasized that Russia does not see “any deviation by the United States from the path of conducting an open and honest dialogue with Russia, China, and a number of other countries. We see the United States’ readiness for frank dialogue, and we are also prepared for that.”
Lavrov pointed out that US President Donald Trump is “genuinely interested in helping end the conflict in Ukraine.” World leaders meet in New York every September to give speeches over several days at the United Nations General Assembly, which began its 80th session last Tuesday. After eight decades of its establishment, the United Nations remains the only place on earth where countries can meet to address their differences and find common ground, contributing to shaping their shared future.
