On Wednesday evening, the National News Agency reported, citing the Directorate of Guidance of the Lebanese Army Command, that an intelligence patrol, supported by an army unit, raided a facility in the town of Budai, Baalbek. They seized approximately 64 million Captagon pills and 79 barrels of chemicals intended for drug manufacturing. The General Directorate of Guidance confirmed that several machines used in the manufacturing process were also confiscated, describing the operation as one of the most significant seizures of drugs within Lebanese territory.
The Lebanese Army stated that the drug seizure was part of efforts to combat drug trafficking across various Lebanese regions, following monitoring and tracking of drug trafficking gangs in the Bekaa region. The seized items have been handed over, and investigations are ongoing to arrest the gang members involved in operating the facility in the city of Baalbek.
The ministry noted that this achievement was made possible through close security and intelligence cooperation between the General Directorate for Drug Control in Iraq and the General Directorate of State Security in Lebanon, as reported by the National News Agency. It added, “Baghdad provided the Lebanese side with precise information that enabled the Lebanese army to conduct a major operation in mid-July, leading to the seizure of the factory and thwarting large quantities of prepared narcotics.”
The statement further mentioned that the General Directorate of State Security in Lebanon sent an official letter to the Iraqi Ministry of Interior, affirming that this cooperation reflects the strength of relations between the two countries and embodies Iraq’s leading role in confronting cross-border threats, especially those posing significant threats to Arab communities.
