Lebanon’s army is set to commence its strategy to disarm Hezbollah, supported by Iran, as announced by Information Minister Paul Morcos after a government meeting on Friday.

“The Lebanese army will initiate the (Hezbollah disarmament) plan, but will do so based on the limited resources available, encompassing logistics, materials, and manpower,” Morcos stated to reporters following the meeting.

The cabinet agreed to maintain the confidentiality of the army’s plan details, as per Morcos’ statement, and did not establish a specific timeline for execution, emphasizing the army’s resource limitations.

The national debate over Hezbollah’s disarmament has become a focal point in Lebanon since last year’s destructive conflict with Israel, which disrupted the long-standing power dynamic led by the Iran-supported Shi’ite group.

On Friday, Lebanon’s cabinet convened for three hours, where army commander Rodolphe Haykal presented the plan.

Morcos informed journalists post-session that the government approved the plan but refrained from confirming its formal adoption by the cabinet. He mentioned that the army would proceed with the plan within its logistic, material, and personnel constraints, which could necessitate “additional time and effort”.
