In an official statement obtained by ‘Sputnik,’ the mission announced that it began sending invitations this week to potential members for participation in the dialogue. It clarified that it is adopting a ‘transparent approach in the selection process to ensure wide representation of various groups.’
The mission indicated that it requested nominations from municipalities, political parties, universities, and specialized institutions, alongside youth and women organizations and civil society, including human rights defenders and victims. This is a step aimed at ‘engaging a diverse range of voices in the upcoming national dialogue.’
The country suffers from the presence of two rival governments, one in the east led by Osama Hammad appointed by the House of Representatives, and the other in the west led by Abdul Hamid Dbeibeh, who refuses to relinquish power except through elections. Presidential elections were scheduled to be held in Libya on December 24, 2021, but political disagreements among the conflicting parties and disputes over the election law prevented them from taking place.
