When judicial property expert Dr. Ebrahim returns home from his travels across the UAE, he never worries about parking or washing his car. This is all managed by the Burj Khalifa concierge, one of the many perks he loves about residing in the iconic tower.

“It’s the little things that make a big impact,” said the Emirati. “For instance, when I head out for morning prayer, my car is ready at the reception. If friends visit, I meet them at the lounge on Level 123. Honestly, you don’t ever have to leave the tower if you don’t want to. It has everything from an ATM to a gym and supermarket.”

Opened on January 4, 2010, Burj Khalifa marks its 14th anniversary this year. Inspired by the region’s Islamic architecture, the tower is an architectural marvel that has won numerous awards.

Over the past 14 years, the tower and its vicinity have become the heart of Dubai, attracting millions of visitors each year. Its spectacular New Year’s fireworks are renowned worldwide, with many paying thousands of dirhams for a prime view. Khaleej Times spoke to residents about life in the world’s tallest tower.

‘Personal’ Fountain

For Dr. Ebrahim, living on the 27th floor, the fountain is a favorite feature. “From a lower floor, I get a stunning view of the fountain,” he said. “For my friends’ birthdays, I Snapchat the fountain, pair it with their favorite song, and send it as a wish. Many look forward to it every year. It feels like having my own personal fountain.”

Having resided in the tower for over five years, Dr. Ebrahim appreciates its central location. “When meeting friends or family visiting the UAE, I invite them to Dubai Mall,” he said. “It’s easily accessible and central for everyone. Sometimes, we relax in the lounge on the 123rd floor and enjoy the view.”

Dr. Ebrahim also relishes the New Year’s Eve fireworks. “I was working in London in December,” he said. “But I returned to Dubai before the month’s end because I can’t miss the Burj Khalifa fireworks for anything.”

Streamlined Security

Meanwhile, for Indian expat Salim Moopen, safety and security are the tower’s top features. “No one can enter the building without our knowledge,” he said. “As someone who travels globally, this is crucial for me. Every security measure is streamlined, ensuring no unwanted visitors.”

Salim recently moved from the 85th to the 47th floor and enjoys the improved view. “Higher up, the fountain isn’t as visible, but lower down, the view is much better,” he said. “I love when friends and family visit, and I can show them around the tower. Seeing their faces light up is heartwarming.”

He is also an avid fan of the NYE fireworks. “Residents have a reserved spot in Burj Park,” he said. “My family and I gather with our mats to enjoy the show. It’s a tradition we cherish each year.”
