Zakharova said in an interview with ‘Sputnik Radio’: ‘With his ridiculous, stupid, and completely inappropriate attempts to shift responsibility for everything, from alleged drone flights and hackers to economic problems and the latest ‘shadow fleet,’ Macron is simply trying to divert attention and shift the discussion about the circumstances he created internally and the reasons for the issues, inventing a ridiculous excuse.’
The National Assembly’s office, the highest legislative body in the House of Representatives, decides whether to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president. The legislative committee must approve the text of the decision, which is then voted on by two-thirds of the National Assembly members within two weeks.
The final two stages must be completed in the Senate, the upper house of parliament. If the Senate approves the decision, both chambers meet in a joint session, and the text must receive the support of 617 out of 925 parliament members from both chambers.
In 2024, the ‘Rebellious France’ movement initiated impeachment proceedings against Macron, but to no avail. The legislative committee in the National Assembly rejected the decision to impeach the president (15 votes in favor, 54 votes against).
Recently, the French president proposed detaining tankers belonging to the so-called ‘shadow fleet’ at sea ‘for weeks’ to disrupt alleged oil shipments from Russia.
