Surveillance cameras showed the man leaving the café before heading to a nearby gas station about fifty meters away. He then returned carrying a bottle of gasoline and asked for mayonnaise again. When he confirmed that it was not available, he poured the gasoline on the spot and set it on fire. Thanks to the quick intervention of the employee and the fire brigade, the losses were limited to material damage estimated between 7,000 and 9,000 euros. For his part, café owner José Antonio Caballero described the incident as surprising, explaining that the café does not have a kitchen and that the sandwiches were pre-made, without any sauces available. He added, “It was horrifying and there is no explanation for what happened.”
