The Kuwaiti Ministry of Health stated on the social media platform ‘X’: ‘The number of poisoning cases resulting from the consumption of alcoholic beverages containing methanol has risen to 160, including 23 deaths.’ The ministry indicated that most of the affected individuals have been admitted to intensive care units in various hospitals, where their condition required the use of ventilators and urgent dialysis sessions due to severe complications they faced.

The ministry clarified that its medical teams continue to monitor all cases around the clock, in coordination with the Kuwait Poison Control Center, security agencies, and relevant authorities to ensure the provision of necessary medical care and to tighten control to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, representing the largest expatriate community in the country, noted that about 40 Indian citizens were hospitalized in recent days, without specifying the cause. Previously, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Health announced 63 cases and 13 deaths since last Saturday.

It is worth mentioning that Kuwait prohibits the entry or local production of alcoholic beverages, but some individuals engage in local production in secret locations lacking any oversight or safety standards, exposing consumers to such risks.
