Middle East Peace Efforts and Recognitions

The two parties discussed regional developments in the Middle East, with a focus on the Gaza Strip, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM. They affirmed their countries’ commitment to supporting efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region. Both sides emphasized the importance of progressing towards a lasting and just peace based on the “two-state solution,” considering it the optimal way to ensure regional stability and achieve a prosperous future for its peoples.

The call also reviewed prospects for bilateral cooperation between the UAE and the United Kingdom, where the leaders expressed their eagerness to strengthen the historical relations between the two countries, serving common interests and enhancing security and peace on both the regional and international levels.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated on Tuesday that the UK will recognize in the United Nations General Assembly in September unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and takes steps to end the dire situation in the Strip. He continued, “We do not equate Israel and Hamas, and our demands from the Palestinian movement remain, committed to conducting an assessment before the UN General Assembly on the extent to which both parties are committed to these steps before making the final decision.”

Earlier, the French President announced that he had decided to officially recognize the State of Palestine before the United Nations General Assembly next September. Macron stated in a post on his “X” account: “In fulfillment of its historic commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, France has decided to recognize the State of Palestine.”
