Renowned actor Mohanlal is set to be honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, Indian cinema’s highest accolade, at the 71st National Film Awards on September 23.
With a career spanning over four decades in Malayalam cinema and beyond, Mohanlal regards the award as a tribute to the entire Malayalam film industry.
The Drishyam star expressed that the award is larger than his personal achievement. Since the honor returns to Malayalam cinema after two decades, he believes it belongs to “all the artists who have shaped him as an actor.”
“This is a tribute to the Malayalam film industry. After 20 years, this award returns to us. I share this accolade with the Malayalam industry,” he stated.
“I extend this honor to all the talented artists who have worked alongside me in Malayalam cinema, those who have helped shape me, and who have illuminated my journey in this industry. I share my love and respect with them. Learning of this award was the pinnacle moment of my life,” Mohanlal shared.
Describing it as one of the “finest moments” of his life, the actor reflected, “Upon hearing the news, I thought, ‘Is this truly happening?’—it’s the highest award in Indian cinema.”
“This is a significant moment, but I share the recognition with my fellow industry members, including all artists, directors, producers, colleagues on set, and my devoted fans,” he added.
Earlier, addressing the media in Kochi, Mohanlal described the news as “a wild dream.”
Throughout his illustrious career, Mohanlal has appeared in numerous films across various genres, primarily in Malayalam, but also in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi cinema.
He has garnered multiple awards, including National Awards and prestigious civilian honors such as the Padma Shri and the Padma Bhushan. Mohanlal will receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award at the 71st National Film Awards ceremony on September 23, 2025.
