The “Khabarhub” website wrote in a post: “In response to the attack, the Nepalese army evacuated President Ram Chandra Poudel by helicopter to Shivapuri, where a military training center is located, to ensure his safety,” noting that the rioters set fire to his office. The site had previously mentioned that rioters in Nepal, following the ban on several major social media platforms, stormed the residence of the country’s president.

Last weekend, Nepalese authorities banned several major social media platforms that had not registered with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology within the specified timeframe. Mass protests, mostly involving young people and dubbed the “Gen Z Revolution” by the media, took place in Nepal’s capital yesterday, Monday, and spread to several major cities across the country.

The clashes with the police resulted in the deaths of 19 protesters and injuries to more than 300 others. The deaths of the protesters led to the resignation of Nepal’s Interior Minister Ramesh Lekhak. He submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Sharma Oli in a cabinet meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence.

Following the protests, the government also decided to lift the ban on social media in Nepal, and the Prime Minister of Nepal ordered the establishment of a special investigation committee that will provide an analysis of all the events leading to the unrest and recommendations within 15 days to prevent further protests.
