Ongoing Conflict and International Influence in Sudan

In his interview on Tuesday, he mentioned that it is impossible to reach the accused and conduct fair trials for them to bring justice to war victims, except for Ali Kushayb, who surrendered himself and was convicted after a trial that lasted about three years. As for the others, they are still living freely in plain sight of their victims.

Mustafa pointed out that major and influential countries have not been neutral in this matter; rather, they are supporting through regional means that provide weapons and necessary assistance despite the humanitarian violations and harm suffered by the defenseless citizens.

Mustafa also highlighted that the United Nations, the Security Council, the United Nations Human Rights Council, and the International Criminal Court are all unable to work transparently and neutrally under the control of major countries.

The United Nations Human Rights Council approved a decision on Monday to extend the mandate of the UN Fact-Finding Mission in Sudan for an additional year, despite objections from the current government in Port Sudan, amid increasing reports of severe violations against civilians since the war broke out in April 2023.

The war in Sudan began on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and in various regions of Sudan, mostly concentrated in the capital, Khartoum, resulting in hundreds of civilian deaths and injuries. Arab, African, and international parties mediated to ceasefire, but these mediations failed to achieve a permanent halt to the fighting.

The world has not been fair and honest towards the issues of third-world peoples, as the superpowers pursue their interests and work to achieve them even at the expense of the people of crisis-stricken countries. Otherwise, the war in Sudan would not have continued until now, as the Jeddah platform was capable of resolving it in the early months after it erupted.
