The UN agency reported that it concluded a one-day investigation to uncover the reasons behind the mysterious stoppage of the escalator used by Trump on Tuesday upon his arrival at the UN headquarters. UN Secretary-General’s spokesperson, Stephane Dujarric, stated in a memo to journalists that the investigation concluded that a White House photographer was responsible for the incident, which caused a wide stir on social media. He continued: “The photographer may have inadvertently activated that function.” The escalator failure is one of two issues Trump faced during his attendance at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Trump said at the beginning of his speech before the delegations of 193 countries: “I don’t mind giving this speech without a teleprompter because the teleprompter is not working.” However, a UN official explained to NBC that the White House is responsible for operating Trump’s projection equipment. Trump wrote on his platform “Truth Social”: “The teleprompter was malfunctioning, and the escalator stopped suddenly, but these two events may have made the speech more interesting… It’s an honor for me to address the UN even if their equipment is a bit faulty.” Meanwhile, the White House spokesperson on Tuesday called for the dismissal of the person who might have caused the escalator’s sudden stoppage.
