The UAE has established 100 hospitals in underprivileged nations, driven by the leadership’s belief that no child should suffer or die from preventable diseases, a senior official announced on Monday.
“For the UAE, global health is integral to its foreign policy and economic prosperity strategy. We achieve this through collaborative methods, focusing on long-term and innovative partnerships rather than short-term projects,” stated Dr. Maha Barakat, Assistant Minister for Health and Life Science at the UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“Our initiatives are guided by the vision of our leadership, President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who is committed to ensuring no child dies from preventable diseases. Over the past decade, the UAE has consistently ranked as a leading donor country by percentage of gross national income,” she mentioned during a panel at Abu Dhabi Finance Week.
The UAE has maintained its position as the world’s top humanitarian aid donor for several years.
“Polio is a case in point. We don’t provide loans to countries, particularly those with high debt. Instead, the UAE offers grants, which greatly benefit some of the world’s poorest nations. We’ve initiated projects worldwide, including constructing over 100 hospitals in impoverished areas,” she added, underscoring that these charitable efforts were initially started by the UAE’s founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Bill Gates, chairman of the Gates Foundation, and Dr. Mekdes Daba, Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, also participated in the panel discussion.
