In a statement by the Palestinian Authority published by the official Palestinian news agency ‘Wafa’: ‘The State of Palestine welcomes the sincere and diligent efforts of President Donald J. Trump to end the war in Gaza, and affirms its confidence in his ability to find a path to peace. It also emphasizes the importance of partnership with the United States in achieving peace in the region.’
It added, ‘And also ensures respect for the ceasefire and security for both parties, prevents land annexation, the displacement of Palestinians, stops unilateral actions that violate international law, releases Palestinian tax funds, leads to a full Israeli withdrawal, and unites Palestinian land and institutions in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, ends the occupation, and opens the way for a just peace based on the two-state solution, an independent and sovereign State of Palestine living side by side with the State of Israel in security, peace, and good neighborliness, according to international legitimacy.’
On the other hand, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, Ziad al-Nakhaleh, said that ‘What was announced at the press conference between Trump and Netanyahu is an American-Israeli agreement, and it fully expresses Israel’s position, and it is a recipe for continuing aggression against the Palestinian people.’
He added, ‘Thus, Israel is trying to impose through the United States what it could not achieve by war.’
He concluded, ‘Therefore, we consider the American-Israeli announcement a recipe for igniting the region.’
