A police spokesperson stated in a statement on Tuesday that “our forces detained 17 participants in the road-blocking operation and filed cases against them for obstructing traffic and chanting anti-constitutional slogans.” She added that the police also initiated an investigation due to a phrase written on a banner during the demonstration, which is suspected of expressing support for criminal activities. The spokesperson clarified that seven of the detainees were later released, while ten others were taken to the police station for further investigations. Additionally, orders were issued to ban all detainees from participating in any demonstrations organized in Berlin on the same day.
The German capital has been witnessing increased demonstrations in recent months, especially after the war in Gaza, with German authorities emphasizing the need to prevent “hate speech” or slogans considered anti-Israel, in accordance with German law.
