Sarmistha Mitra, aged 53, stands as a cornerstone in the UAE’s burgeoning wellness scene. As the CEO of The Wellbeing Sanctuary and a holistic psychologist, this Indian expat has called Dubai home for 16 years. She perceives money as a form of self-expression, shaped by diligence and self-mastery.

If you penned a letter to money, what would it convey?

“Dear Money, I see you as a reflection of self-expression. Beyond currency, you mirror my inner world, confidence, and trust in abundance. You’re an extension of my purpose. I welcome you with gratitude, knowing you amplify the impact I aspire to create when used with intention.”

How would you characterize your bond with money?

My relationship with money has evolved. Previously, I viewed it as secondary to my purpose, unintentionally resisting financial abundance, valuing knowledge and wisdom above all. Now, I see money as a tool to enhance my values and limitless vision.

How was this relationship cultivated?

Through self-mastery and subconscious recalibration, I identified internal disconnects. My new relationship with money emerged from expanding awareness, reframing outdated beliefs, and deep subconscious reprogramming. Money is now a creative ally.

What lessons on money management did you glean from your mother?

My mother practiced financial caution, always saving for the future. This instilled discipline but also a belief that money is finite. It made me conservative, cautious of financial risks, even when growth warranted them.

Who do you discuss financial matters with, and is it a ‘taboo’ topic for you?

I don’t see money as a taboo. Financial empowerment begins with awareness, and open discussions can break generational cycles of lack or fear. I consult with financial experts and reflect on how my choices align with my values.

Who has imparted the most financial wisdom to you?

Experience taught me more than any book or individual could. From personal challenges to observing financial energy flows, I learned that money responds to clarity, confidence, and aligned action.

What profound financial experience have you had, and what did it teach you?

Facing uncertainty about managing expenses, I felt the weight of being the sole provider. My husband’s trust in abundance and calm acceptance of financial uncertainty impressed me. His faith in money’s flow as something that moves through us reshaped my views on financial security.

How has life in the UAE altered your view of money?

This nation, built on ambition and resilience, expanded my wealth perception, teaching me that financial abundance stems from adaptability and openness to receive.

What do you prioritize spending money on?

I prioritize spending on experiences, knowledge, and personal growth. Investments that expand my consciousness, deepen understanding, or enhance meaningful contributions are worthwhile.

Do you plan your finances long-term, and how?

My financial planning is structured yet adaptable. I focus on saving and investing for security and growth, reinvesting in my vision for The Wellbeing Sanctuary, and staying open to unexpected opportunities.

How much do you save each month?

I save with intention, not a set percentage. Some months, I invest in growth, while others, I build reserves for security and expansion.
