Scott Campbell, a well-known figure at Emirates Golf Club, has been appointed as the Men’s Captain. With his Kiwi zest and 25 years of experience in Dubai, he’s set to lead the esteemed club into a new chapter.

Campbell, a longstanding participant in Dubai’s golf community, has raised three children in the city, fostering deep connections throughout.

“All of my children were born here. We thoroughly enjoy living in Dubai, embracing its multicultural vibe and global perspective, which has made our life here fascinating,” shares the New Zealander, residing in the city with his wife Margaret and their children, Anna, Matthew, and Katie.

Campbell’s passion for golf ignited in Scotland, where a formal lunch at Royal Troon introduced him to the sport. “I spent some time in Scotland and was invited for a full jacket-and-tie lunch at Royal Troon, which was fantastic fun and got me hooked instantly. I cherish both the sporting challenge and the overall experience.”

As he steps into his new role, Campbell is mindful of the legacy he follows after Joseph Andrade’s successful tenure. “Big shoes to fill, certainly, but I’m eager to embrace this challenge. Essentially, it’s about continuing the excellent work of Joe and Josie Tracey, and the captains before them,” he remarks.

Traditional values are key to his strategy. “I’m passionate about the game’s traditions and the rich history of Emirates Golf Club, being the first grass course in the region and home to the glamorous Hero Dubai Desert Classic,” he explains.

“Acknowledging this history and the efforts of past captains is crucial to elevate our status as the leading club in the region, one that its members can truly be proud of!”

Simultaneously, Campbell is committed to offering members new ways to connect, both on and off the course. “I aim to promote more social golf and provide members with diverse opportunities to mingle through golf and other club activities,” he notes.

This vision highlights that Emirates Golf Club is about more than just achieving low scores; it’s a place where friendships blossom and community thrives.

Campbell is also enthusiastic about collaborating with the incoming Lady Captain, Sonal Ghandi, to invigorate the club calendar. “I’m planning to launch a men’s versus ladies’ members series of team events, which promises to be enjoyable,” he says.

To Campbell, the essence of Emirates Golf Club lies not only in its championship courses and storied past but also in the legendary camaraderie among its members. “It’s a significant aspect of the club and something I believe will only continue to grow this year and in the future,” he states.

“With new management bringing fresh perspectives and energy, I’m confident the club will keep thriving.”

For those aspiring to follow his lead, Campbell offers simple advice. “Enjoy the game! It’s a fantastic hobby, albeit sometimes frustrating, but a wonderful way to meet diverse people and have great experiences, so dive in and get involved.”

With his Kiwi spirit, love for tradition, and focus on community, Scott Campbell begins his tenure as Men’s Captain ready to steer Emirates Golf Club through another remarkable year on and off the course.
