After over three decades in the film industry, Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan finally earned his first National Film Award for Best Actor. The prestigious National Film Awards ceremony took place in New Delhi on Tuesday, with Indian President Droupadi Murmu presenting the honors for the year 2023.
The 59-year-old actor was recognized for his role in Atlee’s film ‘Jawan’, which premiered in September 2023. Shah Rukh, looking dapper in a black suit, attended the event with his manager, Pooja Dadlani.
His wife Gauri Khan celebrated his achievement with an Instagram post. “What a journey it’s been @iamsrk. Congratulations on winning the National Award! Truly deserved… it’s the result of your years of hard work and dedication. I’m now designing a special mantle for this award,” the interior designer expressed.
Fellow actor and frequent co-star Rani Mukerji also received her first National Film Award for Best Actress at the 71st National Film Awards for her role in ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway.’ Celebrating a career of 29 years, Rani donned a stunning brown saree, accessorized with a white necklace and silver-plated jewelry.
‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ draws inspiration from the real-life story of Sagarika Chakraborty and Anurup Bhattacharya, an Indian couple in Norway whose children were taken by Norwegian authorities in 2011.
Filmmaker Karan Johar graced the event as his film ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’ won the National Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. The movie, starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, along with Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, and Dharmendra, was released on July 28, 2023, to great acclaim.
