Russia’s Second-Largest Air Force Development

Despite Russia’s extraordinary capabilities in the field of missiles, it continues to develop its air force, making it the second-largest air power in the world, according to statistics from the military affairs website ‘Global Firepower.’ According to the announced statistics, Russia possesses 4,292 warplanes of various models, all manufactured locally. Russia’s air force includes fighters, attack aircraft, strategic bombers, as well as helicopters and jet and rotary military transport aircraft.

Helicopters of all types make up about 33 percent of the size of the Russian air force, followed by attack aircraft at about 17 percent, and then attack planes at 14 percent.

The 12th of August each year marks the Russian Air Force Day, as on this day in 1912, a decree was issued in Russia to integrate military aviation units into the general staff.
