South Korea Removes Loudspeakers to Ease Tensions

The ministry confirmed that “the step will not affect the army’s readiness and includes the removal of about 20 fixed loudspeakers during this week,” according to South Korea’s “Yonhap” news agency.

Seoul did not conduct any prior consultations with Pyongyang, which has not yet shown any signs of taking a similar step, despite maintenance work being observed on its loudspeakers, according to the agency.

South Korea had resumed this propaganda campaign in 2023, following tensions in relations with its northern neighbor.

According to South Korean media, President Lee Jae-myung has been seeking to ease tensions and improve relations with the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea since taking office, urging organizations in his country to stop anti-Pyongyang publications.
