Hespress reported today, Thursday, that the Spanish Civil Guard managed to dismantle a drug smuggling network, confirming that drones were launched from southern Spain to transport drugs from Morocco, dropping the shipment upon return over the cities of Vejer de la Frontera and Tarifa in Andalusia, southern Spain.

The newspaper stated that the parcels were equipped with fluorescent markers and radio frequency tracking devices to facilitate their location at night. The smuggling network itself was manufacturing drones with a range of over 200 kilometers using components from Asian suppliers.

It explained that the network managed to develop locally-made drones characterized by autonomy, precision, and a payload capacity far exceeding conventional commercial models. The network operated almost every night, launching up to 10 drones simultaneously, allowing it to transport about 200 kilograms in total.

The dismantling operation was carried out in cooperation with the Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie, after detecting several flights of unidentified drones between the two countries. Eight operational drones and ten others under construction were seized during five raids, along with more than 150 kilograms of cannabis and 320,000 euros in cash, leading to the arrest of nine people.

It is noteworthy that last year, a criminal network was dismantled that used drones made in Ukraine to transport cannabis from Morocco to Spain.
