On Thursday, the committee described the situation in Sudan as the “worst cholera outbreak in recent years,” according to Sudanese sources. José Luis, head of the committee’s operations in Sudan, stated that the health conditions are rapidly deteriorating due to the ongoing conflict for more than two years, which has destroyed vital infrastructure and left millions without clean water or medical care. Luis added that the rainy season is accelerating the situation, calling for urgent action and international coordination to address the crisis.
The war in Sudan erupted on April 15, 2023, between the army led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti), in various regions, affecting healthcare services and living conditions for Sudanese people, particularly exacerbating the internal and external displacement crisis.
Arab, African, and international parties have mediated to establish a ceasefire, but these mediations have not succeeded in reaching a permanent halt to the fighting.
