A statement from the official spokesperson of the army said, “The Sudanese armed forces stormed the city with determination and capability, and managed to clear it,” affirming the continuation of operations until the entire country is liberated, according to his statement.
The city of Bara holds strategic importance due to its location on the main road connecting the city of Al-Ubayyid, the capital of North Kordofan, to several vital axes within the region.
In recent months, the areas surrounding Bara have witnessed fierce battles, during which the army and the Rapid Support Forces exchanged control amidst escalating fighting in the states of Darfur and Kordofan.
In April 2023, violent and widespread clashes erupted between the Sudanese army forces in various parts of Sudan, as both sides attempted to seize control of critical sites. Arab, African, and international parties mediated to halt the fighting, but these efforts have not succeeded in achieving a permanent ceasefire.
