Sudan’s Crisis: International Urgency Against RSF

The Sudanese government stated in a declaration that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) engage in systematic killings based on tribal grounds, ethnic cleansing, and deliberate targeting of service infrastructure and camps for displaced persons, in clear defiance of UN Security Council resolutions and with disregard for international humanitarian law. The statement emphasized that these crimes necessitate international willpower to help Sudan eradicate this terrorist militia and hold its leaders and supporters accountable for committing these crimes against innocent citizens. It noted that yesterday’s bloody attack will only reinforce the Sudanese people’s steadfast stance on the need to eliminate this militia that destabilizes security in the region and the area.

On Saturday, in an attack conducted by a drone affiliated with the RSF in the Sudanese city of El Fasher, local sources reported that dozens were killed and hundreds injured within residential neighborhoods due to the attacks by the RSF using drones. The sources clarified that one of the drones targeted a shelter center housing civilian displaced persons in the city, resulting in the death of 30 people and injuring dozens of unarmed citizens, including women and children.

Sudanese Prime Minister Kamel Idris denied the existence of famine, indicating that what is circulated in some media outlets or issued by some organizations in this regard does not reflect the reality on the ground. Idris explained at the weekly briefing of the Ministry of Culture and Information, organized by the Sudan News Agency in Port Sudan, that “the situation in Sudan cannot be described as famine, but there are besieged areas, such as the city of El Fasher, which necessitates that the international community and major countries take their humanitarian responsibilities and work to lift this siege immediately,” according to the Sudan News Agency.

He added, “Sudan has moved beyond the stage of talking about famine definitively, and no entity will be allowed to reintroduce this claim, as we have decisively and forcefully confronted these allegations with proof.” Sudanese media reported that the Sudanese army recently succeeded in executing its first air drop operation in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State, for the first time in about 5 months.

The war that erupted between the RSF in April 2023 led to the deaths of tens of thousands and the displacement of millions, with the city of El Fasher, the battlefield in Darfur, being destroyed by shelling. The United Nations estimates that children constitute about half of the 260,000 civilians trapped in the city, who have been cut off from almost all external aid.
