The agreement was reached during a meeting in the Jordanian capital, Amman, between the Foreign Ministers of Syria and Jordan and the U.S. envoy. The parties discussed ways to enhance cooperation to ensure Syria’s stability and sovereignty, welcoming its humanitarian efforts, restoring services, and creating conditions for the return of displaced persons, according to Syrian news agency ‘SANA.’

In a related context, the attendants, Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al-Shibani, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, affirmed that Sweida is an integral part of Syria. They emphasized protecting the rights of its residents and involving them in rebuilding the country, welcomed steps by the Syrian government to investigate violations and hold perpetrators accountable, enhance humanitarian aid, restore services, and begin rehabilitating affected areas, according to a statement from the Jordanian Foreign Ministry.

The statement added that Jordan and the U.S. renewed their full support for Syria and called on the international community to assist in rebuilding and achieving civil peace. The parties agreed to hold a new meeting soon and to form a trilateral working group to support efforts to stabilize the ceasefire in Sweida.

Today’s meeting, held on Tuesday, was a continuation of discussions that took place last July, aimed at stabilizing the ceasefire after violent clashes between Sweida residents and Bedouin tribes, followed by Syrian military intervention, while Israel targeted Syrian army vehicles, pledging to ‘protect the Druze.’

The Syrian presidency announced a comprehensive and immediate ceasefire on July 19, which was supported by Druze spiritual leaders, and ensured safe passage for Bedouin families accompanied by UN forces.
