The bank denied the launch of any new digital currency or others, whether linked to the Syrian pound or any other currencies. In an official statement, it clarified that any activity or announcement related to the issuance of currency or financial instruments can only be issued exclusively through its approved channels. It called on citizens and the media to rely solely on official statements, according to Syrian news agency ‘SANA’.
This comes after images and posts circulated on social media suggesting the launch of a digital currency named ‘Amanah Coin – AMN’, which is claimed to compete with the Turkish lira and the dollar, featuring a smart linking algorithm that provides relative stability.
The Central Bank of Syria, in a previous statement, confirmed it is continuing to implement the currency exchange plan in cooperation with relevant authorities. It emphasized that it is the only entity authorized to publish related information and that no final date has been set for the launch of the new currency. Information circulating on unofficial platforms is unfounded.
