Washington – Sputnik. The executive order states that “aiming to suppress legitimate political activity and obstruct the rule of law, I hereby designate the ‘Antifa’ movement as a domestic terrorist organization.” Trump had earlier this month said that he would urge authorities to open broad investigations into the movement’s funders, affirming that this would be done “according to the highest standards and legal practices.”
‘Antifa’ is not considered a standalone legal entity, but the term is understood to refer to supporters of anarchist currents. The FBI Director, Kash Patel, had previously spoken about counter-terrorism investigations targeting those he described as ‘nihilists.’
