Telegram Rejects Political Censorship Pressure

Zakharova told the ‘Sputnik’ agency: ‘Who would doubt that? When the West decides to destroy another state, it acts without a shred of conscience in all areas.’

Durov said: ‘About a year ago, when I was stuck in Paris, the French special services contacted me through an intermediary to request the Moldovan government to censor certain Telegram channels before the presidential elections in Moldova.’

He continued: ‘This was unacceptable for several reasons. If the agency actually contacted the judge, it would have been an attempt to interfere in the judicial process. If they didn’t, and only claimed they did, they were exploiting my legal situation in France to influence political events in Eastern Europe – a pattern we’ve also observed in Romania.’

He explained: ‘We rejected this request.’

He affirmed that ‘Telegram is committed to freedom of expression and will not delete any content for political reasons. I will continue to expose every attempt to pressure Telegram to censor our platform.’
