With the push of a button, the Tennessee Valley Authority, the largest public power supplier in the United States, successfully demolished one of the massive cooling towers at the abandoned Hartsville nuclear power plant in a controlled explosion. Construction of the power plant was halted in the 1980s before it could begin producing electricity. The site has remained dormant for decades. According to local media, the tower was part of the Hartsville nuclear plant project, which was canceled earlier. The 540-foot cooling tower was demolished to make way for future development.
