The association confirmed in its report that the Arab world will witness a total lunar eclipse expected to occur on September 7, 2025. During this event, the moon will gradually immerse in the Earth’s shadow until its light completely disappears, transforming into a beautiful coppery-red or orange color. This phenomenon occurs when the moon is in its full phase and directly enters the dark region of the Earth’s shadow.

It is expected to be excellent in most areas of Saudi Arabia and the Arab region, where it can be enjoyed with the naked eye or using telescopes and astronomical cameras to capture unique images. A lunar eclipse occurs in opposition, in the middle of the Hijri month, when the moon is full and located at one of the ascending or descending nodes created by the intersection of the moon’s orbital plane with the sun’s orbital plane, or near them. In this case, the Earth lies on the line of conjunction, which is the line connecting the centers of the Earth and the sun, or close to it.

It is worth noting that a solar eclipse means the moon’s shadow falls on the Earth and occurs during the day, while a lunar eclipse is when the Earth’s shadow falls on the moon and occurs at night.
