Trump and Harris: Two contrasting strategies for the upcoming debate

Ahead of the expected debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, two different approaches that will be presented on stage are already obvious.

On the one hand, Trump draws on his experience in political confrontations and business, while Harris is a lawyer seeking to emphasize his competence and persuasiveness. The debate, hosted by ABC, promises to be a key moment in the election campaign, given that a recent poll showed almost equal positions of the candidates 48 hours before their meeting.

According to a study conducted by the New York Times and Siena College, Trump has 48% support, while Harris is 1% behind with 47%. This will be the seventh debate for Trump, although his most memorable moments were at the last debate with Biden in June. He has not yet revealed his strategy, but only noted that he “will give Harris the opportunity to speak out,” adding that it is important to adapt to the atmosphere of the debate. His focus will be on key issues such as the economy, job creation and immigration, while he will strive for a more restrained style.

Harris, on the other hand, approaches the debate with high expectations. She intends to consolidate her recent success and demonstrate herself as a strong candidate capable of keeping the presidency in the hands of the Democratic Party. She had previously used the June 27, 2019 debate to stand out among the primary election contenders, although her initial campaign was unsuccessful and she was eventually selected as the party’s candidate.
