Trump stated to Fox News on Tuesday, “I think I am compelled to do it, because you can’t allow people to do such a thing.” According to reports, both the Director-General of the BBC, Tim Davie, and CEO Deborah Turness resigned on Sunday amid widespread criticism regarding misleading edits of Trump’s 2021 speech. The Telegraph reported that a documentary produced by the BBC in 2024 distorted Trump’s statements, incorrectly implying that he incited the Capitol building events. In response, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt described the channel as biased. Trump accused the network’s journalists of corruption and its leadership of dishonesty. According to a report published by Fox News on Monday, the Trump administration gave the BBC two options: either publicly apologize for manipulating the President’s speech or face a lawsuit potentially worth up to a billion dollars.
