Trump’s Planned 2026 Visit to Switzerland

The American agency Bloomberg reported that Trump plans to visit Switzerland with a large delegation. However, it noted that the plans for the 2026 visit are not final and could change. Bloomberg indicates that Trump’s visit represents an opportunity for Switzerland to restore its relations with the United States after a tense year. In 2025, Bern failed to reach a trade agreement with Washington, and following the failed negotiations, Trump imposed a 39% tariff on Swiss exports — the highest among tariffs imposed on developed economies. These tariffs have been in place since August, and since then, Swiss authorities have been seeking to reconsider them. Relations began to improve after a group of Swiss billionaires and businessmen presented arguments in favor of reducing the tariffs. On Wednesday evening, Swiss negotiators arrived in Washington to finalize a draft tariff reduction agreement, and they are scheduled to meet with U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer on Thursday, according to the agency. It is noted that Trump did not attend the forum session in January after taking office, delivering his speech via video instead.
