Trump’s Tariff Hikes Impact Global Trade

According to the executive order signed by Trump on Thursday, additional tariffs have been imposed on dozens of countries where the United States sees a significant trade imbalance in favor of those countries, according to Western media. Trump’s new tariffs are part of the White House’s plan to restructure global trade to benefit American workers. These tariffs are set to take effect on August 7th, which is seven days after the previously determined date. The tariffs will apply to countries that have not reached bilateral trade agreements with Washington. Trump has stated that he remains open to any compelling trade offers in the future.

The additional U.S. tariffs have sparked widespread concern among businesses exporting to the United States. President Donald Trump imposed strict tariffs on imports from dozens of trading partners, including Canada, Brazil, India, and Taiwan, as part of a plan to reshape the global economic landscape. This coincides with the deadline he previously set for signing new trade agreements, which ends today, Friday.

Some countries managed to reach understandings with the U.S. administration to reduce imposed tariffs, while others were not given the opportunity to begin negotiations. Trump confirmed that the implementation of the tariffs is going “very well and very smoothly,” indicating his openness to concluding more trade agreements. The White House stated in an official statement that the new tariffs range from 10 to 41 percent, while reaching 50 percent on some imported goods.
