As families in the UAE prepare for the upcoming school year, the government has announced flexible work hours for its employees. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources confirmed this on Wednesday, August 20, with the release of the latest ‘Back to School’ policy.
For the Academic Year 2025-2026, employees are granted flexibility on the first school day. Attendance and departure times can be adjusted with the entity’s system and manager’s approval.
Federal ministries and entities are instructed to allow employees flexibility on the first day to escort their children to and from school or home.

The authority specified that this flexibility should not exceed three hours on the first day of school.
Additionally, employees with nursery and kindergarten children are advised to receive flexibility for a week to adapt to new schedules. This flexibility is limited to three hours per day during the first week.
During the new academic year, employees can take up to three hours to attend school events like parent-teacher meetings, graduations, or other child-related activities.
Employers are reminded to consider varying school start dates based on different curricula.
This initiative, also implemented last year, aims to provide necessary workplace flexibility without disrupting workflow and service delivery.
