The UAE has firmly condemned Israel’s overt attack on Qatar, describing it as an “irresponsible escalation endangering sustainable peace and regional stability.”

During Thursday’s UN Security Council emergency session, Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic advisor to the UAE President, declared that “the aggression against Qatar exacerbates an already volatile situation.” He criticized the council’s “inability to decisively counter repeated Israeli breaches of fundamental UN Charter principles.”

Gargash highlighted that Israel’s lethal strikes in Qatar targeting Hamas leaders on Tuesday breached international law and only “intensify violence, extremism, and disorder—precisely when a ceasefire, dialogue, and de-escalation are critically needed.”

He deemed the military strikes reckless, stressing that “the ongoing threats of annexing Palestinian land and assaults on neighboring countries jeopardize efforts for lasting peace and threaten regional stability.”

On Wednesday, UAE security and political analysts informed Khaleej Times that Israel’s military action, which resulted in six deaths and multiple injuries, was “not only an assault on a Gulf state’s sovereignty but also places the Abraham Accords in a more precarious position than at any time since their inception.”

Dr. Kristian Patrick Alexander, senior fellow and lead researcher at Rabdan Security and Defence Institute in Abu Dhabi, stated that the strike in Doha on Tuesday was “more than a military action. It was a significant diplomatic and symbolic challenge to the entire Accords framework. It was a direct, kinetic violation of a fellow Gulf state’s sovereignty.”

‘Qatar does not stand alone’

In his address, Gargash assured that “Qatar does not stand alone,” stating: “The Council spoke unanimously to denounce aggression. Our united voice should effect change against these illegal acts violating international law.”

Gargash noted that UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Qatar following the Israeli strikes in Doha.

“(Sheikh Mohamed) reaffirmed our unwavering solidarity with Qatar, its leadership and people, and our firm support for all measures Qatar undertakes to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and its people’s safety,” Gargash emphasized.

‘Let’s work together’

Gargash urged the UN Security Council and attendees to collaborate towards a better future for the region—a future “founded on justice, coexistence, shared prosperity, and good neighborly relations, free from all forms of extremism.”

“In our meeting today, we reaffirm the importance of international law, state sovereignty, and the wisdom necessary from all of us to achieve peace and security,” he added.
