Currently, a UAE team is delivering crucial humanitarian aid to individuals impacted by the catastrophic earthquakes that struck Afghanistan on Tuesday.

Earlier this week, powerful earthquakes devastated the South Asian country, already burdened by war, poverty, and diminishing aid. By Thursday, the Taliban administration reported 2,205 fatalities and 3,640 injuries.

The first earthquake of the week, with a magnitude of 6, occurred just before midnight on Sunday, making it one of Afghanistan’s deadliest. It caused extensive damage in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces, striking at a shallow depth of 10km (6 miles).

A second earthquake, with a magnitude of 5.5 on Tuesday, induced panic and disrupted rescue operations by triggering landslides and blocking roads to remote villages.

In response to the urgent needs, the UAE has established a humanitarian bridge through the Emirates International Aid Agency and its humanitarian branch, the Emirates Red Crescent.

The team has successfully delivered 31 trucks filled with vital food supplies, medical gear, and shelter tents, distributing them to those in need in Afghanistan’s Kunar province.

These actions reflect the UAE’s enduring commitment to providing aid globally, as part of its swift relief response to natural disasters and crises.

The team initiated its humanitarian and relief efforts in Afghanistan immediately upon their arrival last Wednesday, following the directives of UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to support those affected by the severe earthquake.
