The UAE has captured and extradited a high-profile suspect to China, accused of leading a criminal network, as confirmed by the Ministry of Interior on Thursday (August 14).

This suspect, labeled as “one of the most wanted by Chinese authorities,” was detained by Dubai Police following an Interpol red notice.

He faces serious charges, including managing a criminal network that ran fraudulent gambling websites valued at millions.

After the arrest and extradition, Chinese officials commended the UAE Ministry of Interior for their prompt action, emphasizing the vital role of international collaboration in combating cross-border crime.

This successful operation follows key legal agreements between the UAE and China, signed in May 2002, for extradition and legal assistance in criminal matters.

These agreements, effective since May 2004, were signed by Sheikh Abdullah Rashid Al Nu’aimi, Under Secretary of the Foreign Ministry, and Zhang Zhijun, the Chinese Ambassador.

This recent arrest and extradition further enhances the UAE’s reputation for effective international law enforcement cooperation.

Previously, on July 13, Dubai Police captured and extradited three Belgian nationals linked to a severe cross-border crime case.

The suspects — Matthias Akyazili, Georgi Faes, and Othman El Ballouti — are recognized as most-wanted by both Interpol and Europol.

In June 2025, the UAE detained Vitaliy Pirlog, a Moldovan and former Interpol Commission member, sought by French authorities for corruption, fraud, and bribery.

In May 2025, a suspected senior member of an Irish gang faced murder and organized crime charges in Dublin after being extradited from the UAE.

Sean McGovern, 39, arrested at his Dubai residence in October last year, was identified by Irish authorities as a key associate of cartel leader Daniel Kinahan.

McGovern, a long-time Dubai resident, is the first Kinahan cartel member detained in Dubai and the first ever extradited to Ireland from the UAE.
